PeaceRep: The Peace and Conflict Resolution Evidence Platform<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

PeaceRep Research: Responding to a changing conflict resolution landscape<\/h4>\n

The conflict landscape is becoming increasingly fragmented and diverse. New forms of conflict are emerging that defy traditional assumptions that a peace process can end conflict on the basis of mediation between a state and a number of dominant armed state actors. Conflicts are increasingly operating as a complex system of proliferating armed groups who often broker directly with each other and with external states. Geopolitical actors with very different normative commitments intervene in both conflict and peace processes, and local actors mediator shop and hedge between them. In response to these trends, PeaceRep will work to support the reimagining of peace and transition processes, using a range of traditional, praxis, and digitally innovative research tools and projects.<\/p>\n

Our work is organised into four research modalities: research to understand what we term \u2018the fragment state\u2019 conditions; praxis research support in-country to reinventing peace processes; convening to research and address geopolitical dimensions; and digital transformation of peace and conflict research or \u2018PeaceTech\u2019. Each theme will produce a range of outputs: publications, policy briefs, workshops and events, datasets and country interfaces and dashboards.<\/p>\n

Countries<\/h4>\n

Our core research countries are Iraq, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. These countries exemplify fragment state dynamics and require new frameworks for approaching transition processes.<\/p>\n

We also work in a number of countries for \u2018praxis\u2019 (practice-based) comparative research, where research will be focused on active peace and transition support to in-time issues. These include Afghanistan, Ethiopia\/Ogaden, and Myanmar.<\/p>\n

We also aim that the geopolitical dimensions of our work will inform better understanding of how non-ODA states such as Russia, China, United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, and a range of regional organisations intervene in peace and transition processes, and with what goals.<\/p>\n

Partners<\/h4>\n

PeaceRep is a seven-year research consortium led by the University of Edinburgh Law School. We work with a range of partners: Austrian Study Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution<\/a>, Conciliation Resources<\/a>, Edinburgh Centre for Constitutional Law<\/a>, International IDEA<\/a>, Keele University<\/a>, LSE IDEAS<\/a>, LSE Middle East Centre<\/a>, Queens University Belfast<\/a>, and University of St Andrews<\/a>.<\/p>\n

PeaceRep is funded by UK Aid from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), UK.<\/p>\n
