PeaceRep continues to expand the accessibility of PeaceFem with the launch of a Burmese version of the app.<\/p>\n

The latest translation of the app supports PeaceRep\u2019s goal to extend its reach and accessibility among women\u2019s rights advocates in even more regions around the world. The app is now used in more than 60 countries.<\/p>\n

This translation follows an update to the app in early 2023, which included translations into French and Indonesian, additional case studies, as well as technical improvements to aid in user experience.<\/p>\n

What is PeaceFem?<\/h3>\n

The PeaceFem app<\/span> brings together available data on women and <\/span>peacemaking<\/span> in one easy-to-use app in Arabic, English, French, Indonesian, and now Burmese. The app contains case studies on women\u2019s involvement and gender perspectives in peace processes from around the world, including Afghanistan, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Tunisia.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

PeaceRep and our partners UN Women<\/a>, Inclusive Peace<\/a>, and the Gender, Peace and Security Centre<\/a> at Monash University launched the PeaceFem mobile app<\/a> in 2020. The app was created to meet the demand for tools and resources supporting women\u2019s inclusion in peace processes. PeaceFem is designed to support women\u2019s rights advocates, mediation teams, and other peace and security actors in influencing peace process negotiations by providing case studies on gender provisions in peace agreements, and strategies used to work for their inclusion.<\/p>\n

PeaceFem is an important contribution to the growing field of PeaceTech, which uses data and technology to support peacebuilding. The app draws on case studies developed by Inclusive Peace<\/a> and Monash University and 30 years of PA-X peace agreement data<\/a> from the University of Edinburgh.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s participation in peacebuilding<\/h3>\n

Women\u2019s participation in peace negotiations contributes to durable peace<\/a>. However, women are frequently excluded from participating, or face great personal risk in doing so. The recent Open Debate on UN Security Council Resolution 1325<\/a> was informed by the Secretary-General\u2019s annual report, which once again cited PeaceRep research to illustrate the slow progress in women\u2019s participation and inclusion in peace processes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Recent analysis demonstrates<\/a> and reaffirms the need to prioritise women\u2019s inclusion in peace processes. Using a suite of PeaceTech data tools, including PeaceFem, PeaceRep aims to support women\u2019s participation in peacebuilding.<\/p>\n
