{"id":5763,"date":"2018-02-21T11:37:17","date_gmt":"2018-02-21T11:37:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peacerep.org\/?p=5763"},"modified":"2021-12-20T16:03:30","modified_gmt":"2021-12-20T16:03:30","slug":"introducing-pax","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gentest.cahss.ed.ac.uk\/dev-peacerep\/2018\/02\/21\/introducing-pax\/","title":{"rendered":"Why PA-X Matters: Introducing the Peace Agreements Access Tool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>In this short post, University of Edinburgh Law School Postdoctural Researcher, Kathryn Nash, outlines the relevance of PA-X, how it has shaped PSRP research to date, and how you can use tool.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peaceagreements.org\">PA-X Peace Agreements Database<\/a> launched on 20 February 2018.\u00a0 PA-X is the largest dataset of its kind to date, containing more than 1500 agreements from over 140 peace processes between 1990 and 2015.\u00a0 PA-X was created for academics and policymakers as part of the PSRP.\u00a0 It can be used by mediators seeking to understand how compromise has been crafted in past processes, civil society and policy actors seeking to influence peace processes, and academics undertaking both quantitative and qualitative research.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Prior to its official launch, PA-X was used by researchers at the <a href=\"https:\/\/peacerep.org\">Political Settlements Research Programme<\/a> to produce cutting-edge research. The PRSP Report <a href=\"https:\/\/peacerep.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/BRIJ5395_Peacebuilding_final_web.pdf\">Navigating Inclusion in Peace Settlements<\/a> highlights the difficulties of using peace settlements to address underlying causes of conflict while also making concrete observations about the best entry points during processes to address human rights and create a more inclusive political order. Additionally, researchers have produced several case studies on peace processes in specific countries, including <a href=\"https:\/\/peacerep.org\/files\/2017\/04\/201704_BP17_Wise_BRIJ5361_Case_Study_Bosnia-Herzegovina.pdf\">Bosnia-Herzegovina<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/peacerep.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/201704_Jamar_BP18_BRIJ5361_Case_Study_Burundi.pdf\">Burundi<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/peacerep.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/201704_Forster_BP19_BRIJ5361_Case_Study_Egypt.pdf\">Egypt<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Users can search agreements in PA-X by region, country, agreement name, or agreement content.
